Hi Fatima:

We have some customers with Sakai. Some of them use Sakai as the mark repository (really not the bigest ones that as UPV (david roldán) because they have their own mark application)

As gradebook allows to you add “manual” tasks and import scores for an excel they are using these features to store scores in Sakai for electronic and not electronic issues.

The problem they have is when the final score calculation formula it’s complex. (A sample: 20% Presence + 60% Test an 30% Assignments but if you take more than 8 in tests then you can add 0.5 extra points in Assignments and….ufff ) This kind of estrange evaluation ways are a nightmare in Gradebook and not possible to store in gradebook. Then gradebook is not enough for this.

Well you always can use PostEM too creating your excels manually and uploading to Postem tool… It’s a really simple tool, but maybe it can be easy to do some extra developments to improve Postem to become it a mark repository…. And (for example) to allow take reports for postem… I’m only thinking…mmm… it sounds interesting….

Best wishes!

Asunto: [Building Sakai] SAKAI as central repository for marks?

Hi All

Having just migrated to SAKAI from WEBCT , our University is now looking to see whether we could utilise SAKAI as our central repository for marks. Whilst I am concerned that this may be too an ambitious move just yet(too premature especially since we have had just experienced an instance of content disappearing from a course and then magically returning:)- we still haven’t determined what the problem was and am presently keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn’t occur again!) I would however like to enquire from the community if there are any instances where SAKAI has been used as the primary repository for marks and what the experience has been ?

Your input is always much appreciated. Just love the sharing that this forum provides!
