[Using Sakai] [Building Sakai] Reimagining Sakai: drastic changes on the interface

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’ll take a look to all the things you said.
That new feature by Asashi looks mint, indeed.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I don't think the Skin manager made it into Sakai 10.
Hopefully for Sakai 11.

One could download Sakai locally and do this. I wonder if anyone would be
interested in seeing how easy it is to download a copy of any version of
Sakai, update properties, and run locally? Maybe worth a webinar?

This is complex to test because we need to upload a skin and QA server
doesn't have the skin manager (am I right?).

I have skins with vm files for testing but I need someone that put it in the
tomcat/library/skin to view if it works.

Yes, it looks like this made it into Sakai 10 branch already, as it was
completed before we cut the branch.

It would be great though, if someone could test the feature anyway, maybe on
QA05 or QA06. :-)

Thanks,
Neal

We from Asahi contributed a patch (that I really love as skin designer) that
makes possible to add modified "vm files" and the "tool_base.css" inside the
skins folders so you will be able to create very different skins in the same
Sakai changing almost everything, because you can touch the velocity code
directly only for a skin (meanwhile the skins without vm files will use the
standard sakai code).

https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-25456

I think this will be included in Sakai 10 because its in trunk.

If you join this to the skin manager, then you have a great flexibility.

Diego

Hello

Yes, our 2.9 skin came in 2 phases. Last fall we released this
https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/DOC/Skin+Examples#SkinExamples-S
tanfordUniversity(expected2.9releaseJune16,2013)

I haven't had time to update the confluence page, but then we went further
and asked Unicon to move the Logout under the user name as well as the other
dropdown options under the little person icon and replace "My Workspace"
with our new logo. This was released in the winter. Enter student view is
also in that dropdown, though I'm not sure if it is obvious enough.

We may change the gateway to look something more like this (looks like this
already, but menu choices are along left currently.

Hi Bernardo,

Take a look at www.jitl.nl - a CLE instance with a lot of customizations to
the appearance beyond the skin files.

Best, Jaeques

Hello,

We’re interested in knowing any institution which has made big changes to
the appearance of their Sakai platform. Not just changing the colours and
logos of the default skin, but moving whole sections (sites bar, tools bar,
etc.) to a different part of the screen. Something radically different to
what we’re used to. Any comment or example on this matter would be
appreciated.

Thanks and regards.
