[Using Sakai] Fancy forums?

I notice that the Sakai site at UNC: http://sakaitutorials.unc.edu/?Collaborating:__Discussions_and_Private_Messages
Shows a fancier forums interface and options.

For one example, I was trying to see if there was an option to display only the "n" most recent topics and messages, and they seem to have that, but the default forum that I see in our 2.8.2 does not.

Is this some configuration option, or a local mod they have installed, or ..?
