[Using Sakai] Email Archive - Receiving Emails

FWIW, if you're running Mailtool [1] or Mail sender [2] in your instance, those tools are not only group aware but have the ability to send to individuals, roles, and sections and they have an option to send the mail to Email Archive.  And you aren't limited to sending to site participants.
