[Using Sakai] Question about resubmission UI/workflow for "single uploaded file only" in Assignments

Hi all,

We've noticed a change in the UI/behavior for the "single uploaded
file only" approach in the original Assignments tool, from 2.8 to 2.9.

In 2.8, a "Browse" button is always displayed. If you're a student and
you're allowed to resubmit, you click this button and upload a new
file. If you're an instructor, you'll have access to all files
uploaded from resubmissions.

In 2.9, the "Browse" button only displays before initial file upload.
If you're a student and you're allowed to resubmit, you will then see
a "Remove" link instead of the "Browse" button. You must click on this
link (and remove the previous file) in order for the "Browse" button
to once again display. If you're an instructor, you will only have
access to the uploaded file from the latest submission, and no access
to files from previous submissions.

I can't find any mention of this change in JIRA--thanks in advance to
anyone who can help clarify! I'm wondering if the change is tied to
the Turnitin integration, and the fact that only one file at a time
can be checked. Perhaps in 2.8, the tool was sending all previous
submissions?

If this is a design change and not a bug, perhaps we can revisit the
UI/workflow, or at least add explanatory text? The Turnitin
integration requires "single uploaded file only," so this approach is
getting used more, and causing confusion for students trying to
resubmit. It's not readily apparent that clicking the "Remove" link
will make the "Browse" button reappear. Students may simply click the
"Submit" button--and if the instructor has only allowed one
resubmission, they've lost their chance to do so. Lastly, it may be
helpful for instructors to have ready access (in the Assignments UI)
to all files uploaded via resubmission.

Best,
