[Using Sakai] Required anonymous assignments?

Hi Gregory,

When you say "assignments" I assume you mean submissions in the
Assignment tool? If so, there's not really a way to separate a student
ID from an assignment submission.

But there are some options with other Sakai tools:

1. As Francesca Socolick pointed out, you can use the Tests & Quizzes
tool. This tool actually provides two "anonymous" settings/approaches:

a. For "Assessment Released To," select "Anonymous Users." Keep in
mind, the assessment won't display to your site participants--you'll
have to provide them with the assessment URL. The assessment can be
taken by anyone, even if not an authorized Sakai user. So submissions
are truly anonymous, since there's no way to match the submission to a
user.

b. In the "Grading" settings, you can select "Anonymous grading only."
With this approach, the assessment is only available to site
participants, but a submission ID is generated for each submission.

2. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the Evaluation System tool,
but that might also help you achieve your goals. With that tool, you
can assign anonymous evaluations to site participants or ad hoc
groups. You can let instructors handle this process, or an admin can
do it via the Eval Sys tool available in the Administration workspace.

Although these tools have served the community well, more flexibility, less coding, and expanded capabilities are needed to address the needs of future portfolio users in Sakai. MATI Montreal, Kyoto University, and Three Canoes LLC have teamed up to launch an Apereo incubation project for Karuta, a flexible solution in the spirit of OSP that is LTI-enabled for integration with Sakai. Come learn about the current status and future plans for Karuta and see a demo of this new and exciting portfolio project.

So the assignments would show that something was submitted, but not the content. The content would be collected elsewhere anonymously. Or perhaps a poll where they get points for submission, but the results are anonymous still.
