[Using Sakai] re-draft of an assignment?

I have a standard set of assignment for a course, and when updating for a new offering I edit the dates and publish each one. If there are any I want to skip for a particular course offering, I just leave it in "draft" status; it stays in the pool, but does not show up or affect the current course.

Now I have changed my mind on an assignment - I don't want to delete it because I want it carried forward for future offerings, but not to show for this course. Can I put if somehow back into Draft mode, or some equivalent?

I realize I could fudge the dates so it shows up closed, but that would also keep t in the gradebook which I do not want.

If not a standard feature, is there a database flag I could manually set to "re-draft" it?
