[Using Sakai] External access to reports

Regarding:

I'm looking for some hints at which internal functions to peruse for writing a WebService which would lookup a report by name, and run it, and return the results.

Related; the /direct/sitestats-report/describe URL service certainly sounds relevant, but I couldn't yet find any documentation or examples of its usage.
