[Using Sakai] Equation Editor for FCK

Echoing what Steve said, we did a bit of work and testing with WebEq and the next generation (which does cost quite a bit more). One thing to watch when you are looking at equation editors - a lot of people already use the equation editor in Word (for better or worse). One thing in WebEq's favor was that it was similar to the Word equation editor. There are some other interesting equation editors out there, but some of them have a rather different approach to putting the equations together. If it's too different or too markup-language-y, you may have trouble getting people to use it.

Just a thought,
Maggie

Hi Everyone,

I did a bit of research on the web regarding this question, but all the responses seem to be related to Sakai 2.4 or below, and we are running 2.6. Is there (or will there be in 2.7) an equation editor included in the FCK editor? WEBEQ seems to have been discontinued.

Yeah, Design Science stopped selling WebEQ licenses. I think someone here may have upgraded the plugin to work on their next major platform upgrade of their math editing environment, but the licenses cost a lot more then WebEQ did if I remember correctly.

We really need to find an open source solution... but everything that pops up and is cool never seems to work on IE.

How do you feel about DragMath? Their applet is open source so it is something that maybe someone could look at. The authoring seems to work a lot differently (you drag stuff onto the canvas), but it's there.

Cheers,
STeve
