Yeah, Design Science stopped selling WebEQ licenses.  I think someone 
here may have upgraded the plugin to work on their next major platform 
upgrade of their math editing environment, but the licenses cost a lot 
more then WebEQ did if I remember correctly.

We really need to find an open source solution... but everything that 
pops up and is cool never seems to work on IE.

How do you feel about DragMath?  Their applet is open source so it is 
something that maybe someone could look at.  The authoring seems to work 
a lot differently (you drag stuff onto the canvas), but it's there.
