[WG: Sakai QA] [Building Sakai] [sakai2-tcc] sakai-2.8.0 update (IE9 issues)

It sounds like the release mgmt team is recommending that 2.8.0 be delayed so that KNL-697 can be merged in to address compatibility issues with the recently released IE9 as the longer term solution is to upgrade the editors.

That sounds reasonable to me.

Before getting into timeline adjustments I'd like to better understand a few things
1) Are the issues with IE9 the only issue blocking the release?
2) What needs to be done to make this happen (is the fix merged in, do we have testing resources lined up, ect).

If this is the only issue blocking release, I suggest we work to get this in an RC and aggressively to test it. Once it's tested move to release.

If we release 2.8 as it stands now, it will be with a known problem that necessitates a 2.8.1 fairly soon. While the IE9 usage is currently low (here at UM and probably elsewhere), it is likely to grow. While the timing is unfortunate, it would seem to generate a lot of busy work to plan on 2 releases (2.8 and 2.8.1) within a relatively short time period.

I vote for building an additional release candidate with _only_ the KNL-697 change, and target the 2.8.0 release for mid-April.

Preliminary testing reveals that both the FCKEditor and CKEditor need to be upgraded in order to address IE9 incompatibilities. IE9-related tickets have also been filed against tools such as Messages and Forums and Profile2.
