Yes, that's what I'm thinking too and why I think I poll might work, 
since it does not require the money upfront and is easy to implement.

Yes, f you mean the Sakai Institutional Interest Group? The Kickstarter 
idea was discussed at the SIIG and is why I was exploring options. I 
think the SIIG might want to explore if a Kickstarter model might help 
with fund raising for specific projects.
