[Building Sakai] sakai-dev Digest, Vol 69, Issue 16

In regards to my request for "Displaying HTTP_CLIENT_IP", I could not figure that out, so I opted for finding a couple of smaller icons and creating links for the separate onsite and offsite locations.

Dear Team,

Is there any way to hide lessons page while the user is taking test/assessment for particular lesson. Assesment link is created in the Lessons page itself.

For example: Lesson1: there will some text, image. after there will test&quiz link

Problem: The link is created inside the Lesson 1 page and when user clicks on the test&quiz link we need restrict going back to lessons page once user starts taking Assessment/Test on Lesson1

Thanks & Regards

Hi,
Let me put your question the way I understand it.
You have a lessons page, let's call it UNIT1. There, you have some text to read with images and other media, and then, you have inserted a quiz using Samigo (Tests and Quizzes).

You want the user to not going back to Lessons page, while he's taking the test inserted in Unit 1.

If this is what you mean, you can restrict the upcoming UNITS from being accessed until the user passes the Test in Unit1.

I don't think yoy can restrict the user from going back to Unit1 while the test is on the bottom of that Unit1.

HTH

Yours,
Alaa

Quick summary.

More QA volunteers would be helpful. Please email neal.caidin at apereo.org .

We are doing two types of testing. Remember, the week of December 1 is our planned RC01, release candidate, so not much time left for testing.
And U.S.A. Thanksgiving is next week so we expect a drop off in activity.

Jira testing - we are still testing Jiras which we want to verify before merging into 10.x . We have 25 issues left to merge (number fluctuates as items removed from queue and new items get fixed!) [1] . Testing occurs primarily on nightly trunk or experimental [2] .

Smoke testing (like Regression testing, looking to surface bugs) We are testing on nightly 10.x branch [3] . (Also okay to test on a local copy of 10.x if you know how to do that.)

Smoke testing focus
Out of 125 issues already merged into 10.x (soon to be 10.3), the top components for number of fixes are:

Assignments - 35
Samigo Test and Quizzes - 17
Gradebook - 7
Site Info - 6 (mostly groups)
Content - 4

and CK Editor was updated to a new version.

Smoke Testing needs
Significant testing has been done in Assignments, Samigo, Gradebook, and Groups, but more testing could be used in all those areas. And a good workout of the CK Editor in various browsers would be helpful.

Please open new Jiras and relate to the parent 10.3 Jira [4] .

Details if you are interested
* I've tested the "Gradebook API" , which isn't really the API directly but the use of the API between tools (as I understand it). So it involves lots of testing of the Assignments tool, use of the Gradebook and Weighting, use of Groups, and the Lessons tool calling the Assignments tool (I think this is where the API is involved). [5] All looked good. I have not found any bugs... yet. :-) Hey, it's our job to find bugs, don't forget that!

* S2U (Spanish Speaking Users group) is planning to test Anonymous grading in Assignments.

* Alaa Nizar from IIHEM (Morocco) has been doing a lot of testing of Samigo including import/export (I think?) and question pools and question types, etc.

[1] List of Jiras need testing (on trunk) before merge into 10.x -
https://jira.sakaiproject.org/issues/?filter=14299
[2] Trunk and Experimental trunk respectively. Look for SVN trunk on Oracle 11g and SVN trunk experimental build at http://nightly2.sakaiproject.org/ [3] 10.x nightly for Smoke testing (regression) - http://nightly2.sakaiproject.org:8081/portal
[4] Parent Jira for new issues found -
https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-28093
[5] Gradebook API regression test -

Hi,
Thank you for pointing to that link.

I read the thread, but my question was to change the defaults system wide.
The absence of a SAVE button while editing the assessment types in a given site is meaningful, as it gives to the site maintainer a sample to see, then he can create his own types.

The other option is the ability to set up the defaults for those assessment types for the whole system, not on a site by site basis.

It should be either in the database, sakai.properties or a tool xml file somewhere.

Yours,
Alaa

Hi:

We currently have deployed Sakai 2.9.3 and are planning to deploy Sakai 10.2.x in the Spring

We have a program: Citrix, that access is being modified based on where you are on site or off site, by IP address.

We have a load balancer which clients go through to access one of our Sakai servers

I want to identify the client's IP address to determine which way they will access Sakai so when they get to the image I set up as a link to get into Citrix, it will point them to the right path.

I researched this and several people have identified the HTTP_CLIENT_IP to be able to return the IP address through the load balancer.

I'm modifying
portal/portal-render-engine-impl/pack/src/webapp/vm/neoskin/site.vm
and want to know how I can do this with an If statement since I don't know how to get the HTTP_CLIENT_IP into a variable.
Where and how would I define the variable?

Thanks!

Hello All,

I think I've found the SQL file that inserts the default Assessment Types:

https://source.sakaiproject.org/svn/sam/trunk/samigo-pack/src/sql/mysql/sakai_samigo.sql

I've also noticed from the Sakai UI that those assessment types were last updated on 2006.

This information is clearly identified in that SQL file.

So, I think the data is being inserted and displayed from the Database.

Can someone please view this file and write some feedback?

Thank you,
Alaa

Right, if you go into a Test and Quizzes tool as admin and click "Assessment Types" these are the types that are populated by this file by default. The Default one is "Defualt Assessment Type" and the data is put into SAM_ASSESSMETADATA_T. An admin should be able to change the defaults in the UI which would affect all users. You can also edit them in the database if you want.

When an instructor creates them, they can create an optional type, which would choose one of these templates as the default. I think this is what you're referring to, the types in the database.

Yes yes, exactly, that's what I am talking about.

I tested it and it works.

So, to change the defaults system wide, the administrator of Sakai instance must modify the assessment types of any site, and the change will reflect in all other sites.

Great response, Jones

Thank you so much for this.

Yours,
Alaa

The Default one is "Defualt Assessment Type" and the data is put into SAM_ASSESSMETADATA_T. An admin should be able to change the defaults in the UI which would affect all users. You can also edit them in the database if you want.

When an instructor creates them, they can create an optional type, which would choose one of these templates as the default. I think this is what you're referring to, the types in the database.

Thank you,
Alaa

Hello All,

A question to the sakai-dev, how can we change the default setting of Assessment types in Sakai?

Yours,
Alaa

Hi all,

I have a question about site Info and the ?manage group? functionality. When a user tries to create groups automatically, the system present the lists of section and the list of roles.
Then if he select a specific section, the system will still creates groups for all students of the site, even though they are not in that section. However, there will be another group created, with all the students from the section.
I was expecting to have groups created within the selected section.
Is that a bug, or is it the behavior that is required? What would be the point of having a group similar to a section, since the other tools are section aware?
