[Building Sakai] Sakai Search Tool and course data from previous semesters

Hi,
      I have a question regarding enabling "Search Tool"
Do older courses e.g courses from previous terms and semesters get 
indexed as well?
If yes, then does that have any temporary or ongoing impact on the user 
experience in terms of availability of sluggishness while using Sakai?
