I know nothing about the error you mention, but I propose Sakai version
2.9.1, which may have fixed the error you mention, on a trial basis:

*https://source.sakaiproject.org/svn/sakai/tags/sakai-2.9.1/*

I use this version and feel quite stable. So far I haven't had a fault.
