The Apache mime type for .MD5 may need to be defined in the apache config ...

I also don't see anything out of the ordinary with the md5s on the file system where these files are stored.

[shared_release at takeshi artifacts]$ md5sum sakai-bin-2.9.0.tar.gz
e6692858ce37b329af497f5b72ba64ff sakai-bin-2.9.0.tar.gz
[shared_release at takeshi artifacts]$ cat sakai-bin-2.9.0.tar.gz.MD5
e6692858ce37b329af497f5b72ba64ff

However Apache is giving the application/zip and application/x-gzip headers, even though that's certainly not the case, it even downloads the content correctly as plain text.

curl -v http://source.sakaiproject.org/release/2.9.0/artifacts/sakai-demo-2.9.0.tar.gz.MD5
< Vary: Accept-Encoding,User-Agent
< Content-Type: application/x-gzip

I added to the Apache conf

    AddType text/plain .MD5

So now it's returning
< Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8
<

Let me know if this works out for you?

Hi Matt,

The MD5's are all plaintext to me. In Safari they download then I just open in a text editor. Maybe your browser is being weird.
However I note that the MD5s for the javadocs do not exist so give a 404.

I've raised the second issue as a Jira:
https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-23046

cheers,
Steve

This is despite the files having the chain of suffixes .tar.gz.MD5 (not .tar.gz.MD5.gz) and the MD5s for the zip files not being zipped. I think the conventional practice is to have all files ending in .MD5 be in clear text, as they are for the .zip.MD5 files.
