[Building Sakai] Sakai 2.8.2, Windows 7 x64 and the Tomcat 5.5.35 service vs. startup.bat

Hi

I have Sakai 2.8.2 running on Windows 7 x64 and Tomcat 5.5.35. What is the difference between starting the Tomcat5 Windows service versus running the startup.bat batch file? I have the service installed, and if it is running and I run the startup.bat batch file then the Java Tomcat console window closes by itself after a while. However, if the service is not running, then I am able to start Tomcat via the startup.bat batch file successfully.

I can post one or more of the Tomcat log files to this list if necessary.
