[Building Sakai] Gradebook spreadsheet upload causing server hang?

Has anyone else seen an issue where gradebook spreadsheet uploads can
cause a Sakai server to run out of database connections and then hang?
We are still trying to track down the exact cause but it currently
seems to be related to uploads of large numbers of grades into fairly
large classes. This is on Sakai 2.6.x.

NOTE: I may be on a wild goose chase here, just wanted to see if this
sounded familiar to anyone
