[Building Sakai] Citations Tool

Hi Chris,

Lack of ISSN in an OpenURL should not necessarily make that OpenURL unresolvable via SFX.

Can you provide an example of an OpenURL generated from a Google Scholar result that is not working in your setup? There are non-article items now appearing in Google Scholar (for example, Google Patents results) that will generate an OpenURL that is likely not resolvable, but articles should generally work.

Thanks,

Jon

Thanks for the prompt reply and sorry for the lack of information. My colleagues are currently compiling a list of issues, but I know for sure that one issue is that Google Scholar lacks ISSNs in their results, making it impossible for our SFX to resolve them, obviously not an issue with Citations tool, but was the largest issue we have faced so far. Has anyone else come across this issue? I'm trying to familiarize myself with the tool now, as I admittedly have very little experience with it. I'll post back with a more detailed list as soon as I have it.

Thanks,
Chris

BTW, I should have mentioned that the Citations Helper has been in use at Michigan, Indiana and several other schools for several years. Michigan used SFX as the url resolver throughout that time, if I recall correctly. I don't recall that we have had problems, but I think there may be some cases in which attributes are lost due to the outdated implementation of OpenURL in Citations Helper.

Hi Chris,

I am copying the Sakaibrary list because people on that list may be best able to help, and they may not subscribe to sakai-dev.

Can you give more information about what is not working? Are citations being saved from Google into your citations list? Are links showing up that target your instance of SFX to locate the resource? Is the problem that those links fail?

One possibility is the version of OpenURL in use. Some work is in progress to upgrade the Citations Helper from OpenURL 0.1 to OpenURL 1.0. Adam Marshall <adam.marshall at oucs.ox.ac.uk<mailto:adam.marshall at oucs.ox.ac.uk>> or Eric Echeverri <ericeche at umich.edu<mailto:ericeche at umich.edu>> may be able to help if that's the issue.

HTH.

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to find some more information about using the Citations Tool in 2.7.x. We have been unable to get it working 100% effectively. Is anyone else using it? We've ran into an issue linking scholarly articles through Google Scholar and SFX.

Thanks
Chris
