IE8 has not been part of the suite of browsers used regularly by the QA team for Sakai 2.6, which is currently in the final stages of testing.  I'll leave it to Pete as to when he is planning to add IE8 to the mix.  It is certainly likely to be a major browser by later this year for Sakai 2.5 and 2.6 deployments, if not sooner.  There will likely be a need to deal with Windows 7 (with its version of IE8 and Firefox) as well in the near future.
