[Building Sakai] Roster in create new Site

Hi All,I am new to sakai, can any please tell me whats use of
roster? at the time of site creation?
as we can see following message after site type selection

site information
The following roster(s) have access to your site:
SMPL101 SMPL101 Winter 2009: Lectur......

or

we need to  "Add course(s) and/or section(s) not listed
above...<http://localhost:8080/portal/tool/%21admin-365?panel=Main#>
"

in that what is subject, course, section?

except site name I didnt find any use of it.
is it more useful that that?
i didnt understand meaning & use of roster exactly.
