[Building Sakai] state of repositories; sharing content

I have a department that wants to build up a repository of video
content. At the moment this can be done via a separate site to which
all faculty have access. However to use the content in the course
you'd end up copying it. For .PDF files that might be OK, but probably
not for a video repository.

Does anyone know of any existing development work that would be
helpful? Can Jackrabbit, Fedora, or Dspace help? (Indeed, what state
is the integration with them?)

I see suggestions that Jackrabbit may actually be present in Sakai,
but I haven't found any documentation for it. Is this just another way
to store stuff for CHS, or does it provide additional functionality?
Can you put some things in CHS and some in Jackrabbit, or is it
intended to migrate all content into Jackrabbit?

Would the CHS gods be willing to accept code to provide a "link"
option for content hosting? I would just add another option to copy
and move when moving content from another site. There would need to be
some extra code in the kernel, but I don't think it would be a lot.
