[Portfolio] FCK editor freeform portfolio item plugin

When I use the "item plugin" that creates links in the FCKeditor I see
two different behaviors...one that creates links, and one that does
not.

1. If I type some text in the editor, highlight some of it, select an
item or page in the plugin and click the triangle that adds the
item/page, I see that it creates a link out of my highlighted text.

2. If I place my cursor somewhere on in the editor (no text
highlighted), and then select an item or page in the plugin and click
the triangle that adds the item/page, the name of the item or page is
added to the editor, but it is not created as a link to that
item/page.

I'm sure #1 is  the intended behavior. I think that #2 should also
create a link to the item.
Is that the intended behavior?
