[samigo-team] Using metadata for assessments

A few years ago, I heard through the Sakai grapevine that one university had built an outcomes alignment tool or feature that leverages the metadata in Samigo. Even though there is no user facing means of using this data, that doesn't mean that schools aren't using it for reports or who knows what. I agree with Narasi—keep the functionality but tuck it away in a location that won't be seen by most users.

My 2 cents –
Since this has been around for a while and there are some known cases where it is being used (can this be as optional fields that is not visible in the high visibility areas) and move it to a low visibility area that says additional info in collapsed state.

Thanks,
Narasi

I brought up the issue of removing all mentions of metadata in Samigo a year ago as the data is not used in any meaningful way. It's not used in searches, sorting, grouping, etc. My argument for removing all mentions of metadata was that a) it is misleading and b) it clutters the interface.

The only counter-example I received was Roger from IU who said he had one professor who made heavy use of the metadata fields for keeping track of pools.

I would support removing all mention of metadata in Samigo and further simplifying the interface.

Hi all,

I'm curious about how you may be using metadata for assessments in
Tests & Quizzes (Samigo). The documentation says "specify the
keywords, objective, and/or rubrics to be used for searches and for
categorizing this assessment."

My search testing isn't bringing up any results via metadata. And,
making an assessment searchable seems problematic, since I'm assuming
you may not want students searching for assessments. I'm also not sure
how the categorization would work. Thanks in advance for use cases,
explanations--

Best,
Jim Mezzanotte
