[sakai2-tcc] Indie Release Advice - Making a tag the cool way

Uh - How do I make a tag the cool way?

This is how I do it..

svn copy to make the tag
check out the tag
edit the poms to change the versions 
check in the poms

But when I look at profile2 it seems as though the tags get made in one fell swoop.  So there must be a cooler way to do it.

Do you check out the branch, update the poms in the branch, check them in,  copy the branch to the tag and then revert the branch back to SNAPSHOT versions?

Just curious how the oool people do it.
