Thanks for everyones response -- it's helped clarify what the current state of the 2.7.x and 2.8.1 releases. I'd like to put to a vote that we retroactively announce these two releases in the announcement mentioned below (with any suggested changes). I'd like to separate the issue of whether or not we pursue a 2.7.3 & 2.8.2 release, based on available resources. If we have any volunteers willing to act as release managers and put together a new maintenance release for either branch, please let me know.

---------------------------------------------------------

The Sakai community has been busy moving forward with multiple projects and releases, and I'd like to take a moment to review some of the progress made these last few months.

In September, Sakai CLE 2.7.2 was released (http://source.sakaiproject.org/release/2.7.2/), and in October, Sakai CLE 2.8.1 was released (http://source.sakaiproject.org/release/2.8.1/).

The Sakai CLE 2.7.2 maintenance release provides over 370 bug fixes that address key areas like accessibility, internationalization, performance and security.

The Sakai CLE 2.8.1 maintenance release includes over 250 bug fixes that address key areas like accessibility, internationalization, performance and security.

The Sakai CLE 2.9 major release contains over 500 bug fixes, security fixes and new features. We are currently testing a 2.9 alpha pre-release build with a release anticipated next year.

Our thanks go out to the dedicated Sakai Community volunteers from around the world who have made this release possible.

It's been pointed out to me that we never made a formal announcement of either (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), but I think that given the change in Anthony's responsibilities, it's likely that this was missed.

Please let me know by the end of this week of any issues that you think should be addressed prior to a formal, retroactive announcement. Following this discussion, I'll put it to a vote.
