[Using Sakai] How to keep images used in Tests discrete?

That is true. But it doesn't cover using images in the choices for multiple choice questions, matching, etc.

Also, doesn't allow you to display an imagine inline within the text.

To the best of my knowledge if you Attach a file (image, .pdf, etc.) to the assessment question the file will only be available to users taking the assessment. Only specific image types (.jpg but not .png) images will be displayed below the question. With other file types there will be a link with the question which will open the file.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Thank you,

Louis

Other way (a little more complex but no implies making images public) is:

1. Create a hidden folder in the site in resources.

2. Iniside that folder create another folder and allow for that second folder the permission in the students role to allow view hidden resources.

3. Put all the images inside that folder.

In that way, the students don’t see the first folder in their Resources, but they have access to the content inside second folder.

This implies change the links too, because I imagine that you don’t have the images in a second level folder and in that case you neither can to hide the first one.

In this way images are only available for people in the site. In the other solutions images are public and anyone, only with the URL, can access.

Yes, it would require re-embedding the images into the test questions. I’m not aware of any shortcuts around this. :)

Hi, Trisha.

Thanks for the suggestion!
As I understand, this would require re-linking all the images used in the tests, correct? Or is there a shortcut for changing the paths for all the images once they have been moved?

Hi Barbra,

The instructor could put the image files in a “public” folder in his My Workspace site: students have no access to this site, but will still be able to view the embedded images in other sites if the image files, or the folder they are stored in, are set to be publically viewable.

An engineering professor has to use images/diagrams/formulas in his tests
(in Tests & Quizzes) but he doesn't want the students to be able to browse
the images prior to taking the test. He has already created many of the
tests, uploaded the images to Resources, and linked the test questions to
the images. He has since discovered that he cannot keep the images (or
folders the images are in) "hidden" in Resources and still let the images
be displayed in the tests to the students. Does anyone have suggestions on
the simplest way he can make the images visible in the tests, but not
"discoverable" by the students prior to the test?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Barb
