[Using Sakai] Import/export wiki?

Hello, all!

My thanks to Mathieu Plourde who forwarded me Dr. Heard's message. (I use the digest, so the message didn't come through until this morning.) I was able to contact him and we worked through the process.

To tie up loose ends on the list, in case anyone else was interested in the answer --

Yes, it is possible to copy wiki content from an older site into a new site. There is a trick to the process, though. The key step is making sure the "Wiki" tool is enabled in both sites. That is the most common issue reported by users when attempting to copy information from one site to another.

1. Make sure the "Wiki" tool is enabled in both sites (turn on via Site Info > Edit Tools if necessary)
2. Next, go to the destination site
3. Site Info > Import from site
4. Click "I would like to merge my data"
5. Select the site with the wiki content you want to copy
6. Click Continue
7. Check the box for Wiki
8. Finish

This process copies all of the content from the old site into the new site. If only one page was needed, then copy/pasting the code would probably be the easiest process.

Out of curiosity, has anyone developed a modification to the "Import from Site" tool that checks which tools the source site has and compares them to the tools in the destination site? It's so easy to forget to turn on the tools before you try to import materials -- it would be great to save professors time and reduce support calls if the process simplified the steps for them. "The site you selected has other content available in tools that you have not currently enabled. Would you like to turn on those tools so you can copy this content?"

If someone has already developed such a modification, please let me know. Else, would this feature request benefit other universities? Thoughts?

Sincerely,

Is it possible to import wiki content from one course site into another? Thank you!
