[WG: Sakai QA] sakai-2.8.x branch created; trunk now 2.9-SNAPSHOT

I've branched trunk to the 2.8.x branch as of r82482 following today's scheduled code freeze.  Trunk pom versions for all non-indie projects (e.g., assignments, osp, wiki, etc.) have been updated to 2.9-SNAPSHOT as of r82534.  Jira has been updated with a new 2.8.x status dropdown and requisite versions (e.g., sakai-2.8.0-a01).


ALPHA TAG

I have NOT generated a sakai-2.8.0-a01 alpha tag.  There are a number of indie projects that need tagging first to ensure that the alpha tag is a stable one (in other words this branch currently binds to unstable snapshots); additionally I encountered a number of startup errors that should be reviewed before I create the alpha tag.

Indie tags will start appearing in the morning.  The alpha tag will follow.


INITIAL TESTING OF BRANCH/TRUNK

I've tested both 2.8.x and trunk (2.9-SNAPSHOT) in the following environment:

.m2/repository/org/sakaiproject (deleted)
Java 1.6
empty MySQL 5.1.46
clean Tomcat 5.5.30
Mac OSX 10.6.4  

Both download, install, deploy and start up in Tomcat but not without a number of start up errors.  Matt Jones also successfully started up 2.8.x on Windows Server 2008 with -Ppack-demo (HSQLDB) after fixing SAK-18655.
