[sakai-pmc] PROPOSAL: svn cleanup

Creating an svn/deprecated folder for deprecated, retired or otherwise abandoned Sakai core modules I think unnecessary. The modules identified below should remain in place and not be moved as has been the practice for some time. I'd like to note that our current practice aligns with Apache practice. While dead Apache projects are pushed to the Attic, the associated project code remains in place in the Apache SVN repo alongside active projects.

Several examples should suffice:

Dead project examples
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/avalon/?root=Apache-SVN
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/jakarta/?root=Apache-SVN
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/shale/?root=Apache-SVN

Active project examples
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/httpd/?root=Apache-SVN
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/sling/?root=Apache-SVN
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/subversion/?root=Apache-SVN

I think the above a sensible practice that parallels our own. Reflecting on the past, I wish the community had left in place former core projects that were dropped from the core distribution and moved from the svn to the contrib repo. It was all a time waster better spent on present/future concerns.

I'll respond to the call for a formal vote in my next response.

Cheers,

Anth
