[Building Sakai] sakai_digest updats filling binlog

We ran into a situation recently where the updates to the xml field in
the sakai_digest table filled the binlogs to over 40gb.  I have
created a sakai jira for this,
https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-26192, but wanted to find out
if anyone has experienced something similar.  It would seem that the
design of how the digest service stores and updates the information
could be improved to prevent this from occurring in the future.
