[Building Sakai] alerts not sent on Topic or Forum creation

Thanks Jim…but surely at the very least an alert on  Topic creation should be sent to site members ??? How else do we ensure student  engagement  then if they’re not alerted that  a new Topic has been posted?

Hi Fatima,
My understanding is, that's by design--Forums watch notification is only for messages posted.

We’ve noticed in our courses that  when Forums or Topics are created no alerts are sent to  members of the site despite enabling all the requisite settings e.g. WATCH conversation etc . They only seem to receive an alert when a conversation is started. Is this the way the Forum tool works or have we set something incorrectly?
