[Building Sakai] SOLR vs Elastic Search

May I ask why https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SRCH-99 has been closed?  This shim was to allow institutions to choose which underlying search technology they want to run: either solr or elastic search

We have been running SOLR in production at Oxford for months now and are poised to commit the code back.  

After lots of development and moths of non-problematic use, the community should at least be at liberty to evaluate Elastic Search implementations against SOLR search and then come to a decision as to whether just one should be used or whether institutions will be allowed to make a choice as to which way they want to go.
