There is a button in Gradebook which reads "Calculate Grades" - what this button actually does is set all ungraded items to zero. The intent is that items graded with a zero will be included in the course grade, but items which are ungraded (or blank) will not be included in the course grade (which would be appropriate for optional items).

This has apparently been the source of much confusion over the years -- I've attached a patch to this otherwise abandoned issue (SAK-15145) which revises the wording as described in the JIRA. Does anyone object to me checking this into trunk?
