Notice that Sakai trunk is running Java 7 and Tomcat 7, while the 2.9
branch is running Java 6 and Tomcat 7.

Otherwise, I am pretty sure that Java 7 is not supported for Sakai 2.7
(or 2.8 for that matter). See, for example::
