[Building Sakai] Spell Check in Discussions and Private Messages tool freezing in IE9

Matthew,

I am going to talk to the other developers to check the status of our move to CKeditor(I personally don't know why we haven't moved over yet). I'll also have to check the status of the IE properties to see if that'll change it for us.

This isn't core and it also isn't code that we maintain.

I've done some fixes to the After the Deadline plugin for IE in 2.9 (there were a lot of them) but none of our clients use the other Spell Checker.

Your screenshots are also in the FCKEditor so it's likely to get even less attention. If you're still using that in 2.9 without the IE8 backward compatibility property turned on (which it appears from the first screenshot) I'd suggest switching the default editor to CKEditor or re-enabling IE8 backward compatibility for your entire instance as there was a "non ending list of problems" that were never fixed for FCKEditor. [1] This was one of the big reasons we had this option on for 2.8.

Hi William,

I don't see the Spell check icon on QA nor on Trunk. And that ticket, SAK-19538 , indicated that it is not turned on by default, so this feature might not be considered "core" for 2.9. If not, then this might not be a bug that will get a lot of attention in the community at the moment. Of course, that could change....

Neal,

I think what I meant to say is that when a user tries to use SpellCheck functionality in CKeditor it freezes. The tool we use is called discussions and private messages. I know of the other tool called jForums but that is not it.

Hi William,

There is no Spell Check turned on by default in Sakai CLE 2.9 - https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-19538 , instead relying on browser spell checker capability. Which spell check capability are you referring to? Also not sure exactly which tools you mean by Discussions (Forums tool?) and Private Messages (Messages tool?).

Cheers,

Neal

Currently for us whenever someone tries to run SpellCheck in the Discussions and Private Messages tool in Internet Explorer 9, the entire site freezes and you have to exit out. It works on every other browser, just not IE9.

I have attached a screenshot of what the debugger in IE9 pops out when trying to run spellcheck. I am not sure yet if that is what is causing the problem, or that just always happens.

No errors pop up when trying to run it on Chrome or FF.
