[Building Sakai] Gradebook questions

I've been asked to do some statistical analysis of student grades by 
different markers, variance and mean testing of the different markers 
scores, which I'm assuming is a standard requirement. I could do this as 
some standalone software but it may make sense for it to be in something 
like Gradebook.

Is there the concept of pre-release grades in Gradebook? Multiple sets 
of grades that the student can't see yet and are solely intended for 
verification?

Which Gradebook should people be developing on? What's the difference 
between GB1 and GB2?
