[Building Sakai] Problem building trunk (2.9-SNAPSHOT) with maven 3?

I have a fresh checkout of trunk of sakai.  I keep getting errors when trying to build it.  I checked my maven version, as follows:

$ mvn --version
Apache Maven 3.0.2 (r1056850; 2011-01-08 19:58:10-0500)
Java version: 1.6.0_24, vendor: Apple Inc.
Java home: /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home
Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: MacRoman
OS name: "mac os x", version: "10.6.6", arch: "x86_64", family: "mac"
$

Attached is a copy of the maven output when I first build /sakai/master/ successfully and then when I try to build /sakai/.  

BTW, trunk seems to depend on version 1.3-SNAPSHOT of kernel.  I have also checked that out and built it successfully, so those artifacts should be in the m2 repo.  

Is there something new needed to build trunk of sakai?
