[Building Sakai] Editing Course Site Participants

Zhen,

The Jira SAK-20457 does address my issue entirely. I think that it would also be good to not remove the instructor from the course if removing the roster removes all of the instructors from the course.

I would be happy to work on this Jira issue and contributing the code back as UNC-Chapel Hill will be working on this type of enhancement anyways.

Thanks,

Mike Jennings

Hi, Mike:

This is totally valid request that at least one instructor/owner role user should remain in the site after roster removal. In fact, could you please take a look at this jira SAK-20457 (https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-20457)?

Please let me know whether it addresses your request.

Thanks,

- Zhen

Zhen,

Here at UNC we are using SAKORA to manage our course sites and rosters. We are currently in the process of allowing the Instructor create Courses and attach Rosters to the sites through the course site creation tool. This all works great, but we have run into a issue when the instructor removes the roster, they essentially remove everyone from the course, including themselves. Now the instructor has no access to the course site that they were currently managing, so they go back through the course site creation process, get a message that there course has been created, and have to create a duplicate course instead of being added back to the course they once were in.

I would rather have the remove roster function only remove students from a course site in this manner. This would prevent duplicate sites from being created by instructors in Sakai when they are just trying to get there access back to a site they once belonged to and accidently removed there access to. Also the removal of the roster probably should have a error message telling the instructor in more detail that they are going to remove there access to the site.

This is a reason that I could see for keeping instructors in courses when the roster is removed.

Paul:

Your Quartz job synchronizes roster information with Sakai course site. Those added site members are considered as provided by external provider (your course management system). Hence there is no option to remove them within Site Info tool.

Since the roster information contains both instructor and student roles, remove a roster takes away both user kinds. Is there any specific reason to just keep instructors and remove all students from a course site?

Thanks,

- Zhen

Hello,

currently we're inserting our Sakai Course Management through a Quartz Job via Job Scheduler.
We're using the Course Management API's to insert the data.
When I sign on with a user that has the 'Instructor' role I can see that he/she is added along with all the students (users with 'Student' role), but there is no option to remove the students from the site?
Also, when editing the class roster I only have the option to remove the roster. When I do click it, it removes the instructor from the site aswell. Is there a maybe a way to exclude the lecturer from the roster, so that he/she is not removed?

Thank you
Paul
