Hi all,

I would like to reinforce Anthony Whyte's comments.

1) Would QA admin's bring up 2.8 alpha 3 tags as soon as possible and note the changes in confluence at: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/QA/QA+Servers+-+Sakai+2.8

2) http:// qa1-nl.sakaiproject.org is up and ready for action for any testing, more servers will follow soon. If you are testing would you please note your efforts under: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/QA/2.8.0+Changes so others can follow and avoid duplication.

3) A period of code review and clean up is taking place. I will volunteer to look at any tool that a developer is ready to quickly patch in a two week period. The relevant Jira is: http://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-19081 I am particularly pleased with the names mentioned by the resolved sub-tasks and am very glad of the ongoing support of the Maintenance team.

Happy bug hunting,

Alan

Subject: [WG: Sakai QA] sakai-2.8.0-a03 available

The sakai-2.8.0-a03 alpha QA tag is available. QA admins supporting the 2.8 release should provision their servers with the new tag at their earliest convenience.

TAG

svn co https://source.sakaiproject.org/svn/sakai/tags/sakai-2.8.0-a03/

NEW TOMCAT VERSION (5.5.31)

The demo version is bundled with Tomcat 5.5.31. Deployers performing a source install should download and install Tomcat 5.5.31 before building and deploying sakai-2.8.0-a03.

TAG PATCHED (SAK-19431, r84226)

I do not as a rule patch tags. However, after starting up the demo earlier this morning and creating a project site with all tools, the OSP wizards tool triggered an OutofMemoryError error.

2010-11-03 09:04:44,945 ERROR http-8080-Processor25 org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].[/osp-wizard-tool].[osp.wizard] - Servlet.service() for servlet osp.wizard threw exception
2010-11-03 09:04:54,323  WARN http-8080-Processor25 org.sakaiproject.util.RequestFilter - Servlet execution threw an exception
2010-11-03 09:04:59,948 ERROR http-8080-Processor25 org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].[/portal].[sakai.portal.charon] - Servlet.service() for servlet sakai.portal.charon threw exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

The demo's start-sakai.sh/bat MaxPermSize was set to: -XX:MaxPermSize=256m. I increased MaxPermSize to 512m, restarted the demo and the wizards tool appears happy. I've patched trunk, 2.8.x and the sakai-2.8.0-a03 tag (r84226).

See SAK-19431 for more details. I encourage the OSP team to review this issue and refine further as necessary the Demo's JAVA_OPTS and CATALINA_OPTS settings.

NEXT QA TAG

Tues, 16 November 2010

We are working on a two-week release cycle. Developers working on 2.8 should calibrate their bug fix clocks accordingly.

Cheers,

Anthony
