[Building Sakai] Who is using the Search Tool?

Hi David,

I have checked out the post-2.6 branch for search tool as you have advised. When I start to run it in tomcat 5.5.26, it throws the following exceptions:

2010-03-23 20:33:02,170 ERROR main org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].[/sakai-search-tool] - StandardWrapper.Throwable
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/lang/text/StrBuilder
      at org.apache.velocity.runtime.parser.node.SimpleNode.literal(SimpleNode.java:277)

We are running on Sakai 2.6.x and from this exception, it looks like it requires a commons-lang 2.4 jar version. However, it still throws the same exception after I have updated the commons-lang version to 2.4 in the pom.xml of search-impl.

I would like to ask what version of the kernel do you use for this search tool? Or are we missing something here?

Thanks for your help!

Peter Liu

Hi

At UCT:

1) we have a 6 node cluster (mysql, NTFS)
2) Search indexing and journal merges are run on 1 of the active servers
3) our index currently contains 2,701,920 documents

If your running 2.6 i would highly recoment you use the post-2.6 branch

Regards

David

no we have a cluster of 2 nodes and search just runs on each node. We use MySQL and AFS as the filestore.

I assume you have a separate Search server as well?

What kind of DB are you running against?

We use it. I assume it works for both DB and file system content. Our material is stored on the file system.

It's pretty good and we've added the 'search all my sites' option too.

We'd dearly love it to search ALL public documents as well but don't really have the time to add this functionality.

We're looking to investigate the Search tool and I've found some info on it from Ian Boston on Confluence. Who is using it in practice?

Does it have the capability to even search documents that are stored on the file system or just database contents?
