Hi Adam,
you should check
*collectEventsForSiteWithToolOnly*@org.sakaiproject.sitestats.api.StatsUpdateManager
option on configuration  page
http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/STAT/Configuration+Options#ConfigurationOptions-2.4.Enablingtrackingofsitevisits

this term we have about 200 sites, before this was ~600, we don't have any
performans issues.
