[Building Sakai] Odd error with Forums in Sakai 2.7.x

Hi All -

I'm really flummoxed on this issue, so I thought I'd see if anyone else can point me in the right direction.

We've got a 2.6.x dev instance that we've recently upgraded to 2.7.x. When we click on an individual Thread title (or the titles of its replies) we get a stack trace. This happens in all course sites and in all Forums. However, I can't reproduce the behavior on any other 2.7.x server, whether they were upgraded from 2.6.x or a fresh 2.7.x install. 

I've created this JIRA, but without being able to reproduce anywhere else, I'm not surprised it hasn't generated any comments:

Essentially, the gist of the error (for those who don't feel like clicking through) is:

Can anyone give me some insight into what could be causing this behavior? I've already tried updating the msgcntr tool to the latest co of the branch and it didn't help.
