[Building Sakai] [DG: Teaching & Learning] Google Apps Integration in Sakai

Hi Steve,

Patricia saw this message and pointed it out to me. The project, BBoogle, comes form our group (Patricia Goldweic and myself).

1. The software provides single sign-on via Blackboard, that is you can access Google Apps materials without having to log in a second time.

2. The software creates and maintains the membership of a course group in Google. Initially the entire class membership is added to the group. As students access materials or links in BB course sites, if they are not already a member of the course group, they are automatically added. This group can be used for student communications.

3. Instructors can create links to documents, spreadsheets, calendars etc inside their BB course sites. The course group is automatically added as collaborator so that students and instructors can edit those materials.

4. The latest version supports folder sharing.

Most of the functionality is implemented as a stand-alone web service called Gint (google integration) which handles mediation between the BB software and Google. A much lighter weight plug-in (called a building block) is added to Blackboard to provide the user interface for linking tools and support for single sign-on. Nothing in Gint is specific to Blackboard.
