[Building Sakai] jldap-beans.xml AttributeMappings externalID?

Quick question:

Now that providers/component/src/webapp/WEB-INF/jldap-beans.xml contains an
AttributeMappings element "externalID" we're wondering... if and where that
value is used or accessible?
