[Building Sakai] Deploying Sakai: override kernel classes

Hi Sonette,

I'd consider doing your own custom kernel. We do this in an msub branch:

https://source.sakaiproject.org/svn//msub/uct.ac.za/kernel-1.0/

You could also do this as a vendor drop to your own svn. We then push
these artefacts to our own maven repo (you'll see we have got our own
version numbers to distinguish it from the official sakai kernel). This
has 2 advantages:

1) We can be sure that we're using the right code (rather than maven
pulling in a different artifact with the same number)
2) We only need to build and release the kernel when code changes in the
kernel.

We copied all those files in our build.sh before we deployed Sakai. Now with the classes being in a zipped file and being extracted during deployment it is going to be difficult for us the override the standard Sakai classes. Are there any ideas how we can copy these files or actually where/when will be a good place/time to copy these files?
