Hi all,

I was at WWDC this year and attended the Java in Snow Leopard session. All they have done (in regards to java versions that come with OSX) is removed all java versions previous to 1.6 from the Snow Leopard install. They are not trying to stop you using previous versions, you can still install them. It was just a conscious decision to move forward and try and encourage the developer community to do so as well.

If you're upgrading the Snow Leopard, then just make sure you install java 1.5 when you're done.

>From what Aaron said, yes, Sakai will need to move to Java 1.6 soon as Sun's support for Java 1.5 ends 31 October this year (IIRC).

I moved my 10.5 machine to java 1.6 awhile ago since a lot of other
projects are already requiring java 1.6. I would say Sakai needs to at
least try to be 1.6 compatible fairly soon. I created a few issues
about the incompatiblity in JIRA a couple months ago if anyone is
interested in checking those out.
