[Building Sakai] FCKeditor improvement?

Hi everyone,

We handle quite a few support calls with FCKeditor and pasting from Word.
I think this comes from FCK's best effort attempt at sanitizing a "Paste"
from word, when users don't use the "Paste from Word" function. Users
simply don't Preview (should they have to if it's a WYSIWYG editor?), and
they simply don't think to use the "Paste from Word" icon. The result is
that what they saw is definitely not what they got.

There are a couple possible solutions to this offered in FCK, but they all
have pretty dominant disadvantages:

1. Force paste as plain text. Obvious disadvantage is that you can no
longer have rich text pastes, as it disables the "Paste from Word" icon
2. Auto-detect pastes from Word. Disadvantage is that it only works for
IE, and can amplify the problem of people not using "Paste from Word"

Does every other institution share this headache? I've found out how to
trick FCKeditor into not disabling the "Paste from Word" function in
solution #1 if ForcePastePlainText is enabled -- is this a desirable
configuration for anyone? Can anyone think of any obvious reasons why we
wouldn't want to make this change?

Thanks,
