FYI - I have posted some insights of lessons learned about migrating to Blackboard 9. Highlights:

Shortly after the 10th Annual Sakai Conference, Blackboard held their annual conference. It was interesting to watch from afar, especially after the announced Angel acquisition/merger. A posting from the Aimless Musing<http://aimlessmusing.com/2009/07/17/upgrading-to-blackboard-learn-9-for-cevista-clients/> blog caught my attention. It describes a session the author attended while at the the BB conference regarding upgrade paths to BB Learn 9, or as the author quotes: "(to) provide a nucleus of a plan for you to move to BB 9(.x)". It was interesting to put this into context as we prepare to head down a very similar path with the Sakai 2 -> Sakai 3 migration project. Here are some of the takeaways I derived after trying to contextualize the points:

As we prepare to start working on a Sakai 2 -> Sakai 3 migration effort, I would like to help organize community contributions. There are a number of roles and skills that need to be filled and your participation would be highly valued.

What can be done immediately:

1) Collaborate on defining the migration project plan.
2) Investigate LTI as an underlying mechanism for exposing Sakai 2 tools within the Saki 3 portal.
3) Investigate Moodle's export/import architecture and file formats.
4) Develop a Sakai 2 Resources (i.e. ContentHosting) to Sakai 3 JCR data conversion.

If any of these tasks sound interesting or you have other ideas you would like to share, please use the wiki space below. Please take the time to declare your area of interest on the Contributors page.
