[Portfolio] Matrices broken in trunk

Anyone tried to create a matrix on trunk in a while?  Seems to be broken!

SAK-16884

I¹m looking through the code and I don¹t see anything obvious in any of the
recent changes.  Surly it wouldn¹t have been broken for months with no one
noticing, would it?
I¹ll keep looking around, but if anyone else sees something, feel free to
chime in!
